Clos Montmartre

Service Description

Paris' most famous wine producing vineyard in one of its most visited neighbourhoods. Closed to the public, this exclusive visit includes a comprehensive history of the 'clos' and a tasting of the very rare wine it produces in the headquarters of the wine fraternity, the Commanderie du Clos. The most celebrated of Paris intra-muros vineyards, the Clos Montmartre epitomises ‘the old Paris’ and contributes greatly to giving one the impression that they are far away from the maddening crowds of the city. This sense of being in the countryside with well-tended vines covering the gentle slope of the ‘clos’ encourages a certain nostalgia for the old Montmartre, glimpses of which are still very much present today. The walk includes anecdotes about the Eglise Saint Pierre, the Abbey de Montmartre, Saint Denis, Van Gogh, The Impressionists, Gerard de Nerval, Jean Marais, Jean Cocteau, the Cité des Arts, Marcel Aymé, the Moulin de la Galette, the Château des Brouillards, La Ferme Debray, Dalida, Goethe, Poulbot, Thomery, Le Lapin Agile… The tour begins in front of the Eglise Saint Pierre at 2 rue du Mont Cenis, 75018 Paris, and ends at the Commanderie du Clos, 9bis rue Norvins, 75018 Paris. It lasts about 3 hours.
